About the Game

What's going on here?

This is the log of a play-by-post, fantasy role-playing game that uses a classic rule system and a novel setting. The slow nature of the play-by-post medium leads to a game that is long on description and character development and short on tactical minutiae. The game is conducted electronically in a private forum and then posted here for anyone who might want to read it.

True to the genre, the story follows a small band of neophyte adventurers seeking fortune and power in a medieval world where magic, monsters and gods lurk around every corner. The game is adjudicated by a Game Master, but it is free-form and unscripted. The Game Master certainly has ideas about what will happen next, but the actual future depends a great deal on decisions made by the characters and, of course, on fickle dice.

This public text of the game is slightly edited--spelling and punctuation have been improved, awkward mechanics touched up, and much of the out-of-character banter has been removed--but these changes are only to improve readability. In the main, the game has been preserved as it was played. The temptation to make it flow more like a novel has been mostly resisted. It is a game, and this is a record of it.
